Medical Certificate

All Transplant Recipients, competing at the 17th Australian Transplant Games in Launceston are required to obtain a valid medical certificate issued and stamped by their Transplant Specialist (not GP).

The Medical Certificate must be dated between April 6, 2020 and August 21, 2020. It MUST be in by August 26 2020. Transplant Australia reserves the right to spot check the authenticity of the Medical Certificate by contacting the Transplant Specialist.

Dialysis Patients

Please contact Transplant Australia on 02 9922 5400 if you require dialysis treatment during the Games and we will help to organise treatment on the days and times you require.

Medical Support

Closer to the Games, Transplant Australia will appoint an Honorary Medical officer for the Australian Transplant Games on the Gold Coast. Their aim is to provide medical support to the Transplant athletes and supporters throughout the week long period.

Your health is important to us. We have planned to manage health issues in the following manner.

  1. Provide experienced first aid responders supplemented with volunteer nurses at all events.
  2. On-call Transplant Medical Officer and Transplant Nurse throughout the games
  3. Access to morning & afternoon GP clinics throughout the games
  4. Facilitate hospital admission and care as required.

Insurance cover during the Games

All registered participants will be covered whilst attending the Games under the Public Liabilty and Sports Insurance Policy that has been taken out by Transplant Australia Ltd. This does not cover travel, accommodation and medical or personal costs.

Travel Insurance for recipients and family members

A comprehensive travel insurance policy that includes medical cover for both recipients and accompanying persons must be organised independently through a travel insurance company of your own choosing. Transplant Australia has an arrangement for travel insurance for our members through Insure & Go or call 1300 552 701.

Once your policy is in place it can also be used for any other travel undertaken by financial Transplant Australia members.

Insure-and-go

Transplant Australia are proud to introduce you to travel insurance provider, InsureandGo!

InsureandGo are well established in the local and international market and takes pride in making travel insurance accessible, customisable and affordable.

Travel insurance can be difficult for travellers with pre-existing medical conditions due to the lengthy application process and requirement of documentation. InsureandGo has responded to this and considers all pre-existing medical conditions easily online or over the phone with no documentation required upon application. They even cover travellers up to the age of 100!

With InsureandGo travel insurance, you can travel with peace-of-mind knowing that all policies include unlimited medical expenses cover overseas. In addition, InsureandGo also will provide cover for lost, damaged or stolen luggage and some levels of cover will also cover necessary trip cancellation. Always remember to read the Product Disclosure Statement and declare all pre-existing medical conditions to ensure InsureandGo is the right product for you.

Please keep in mind that insurance will always be assessed on a case-by-case basis and there is no guarantee of cover, and in some circumstances higher premium may be required to cover certain medical conditions. For travel in the United States, particularly for travellers with certain conditions, it may be more difficult to get cover. While we provide a link to the InsureandGo website and their insurance quote facility, we strongly recommend that you contact them by phone rather than electronically, to discuss your individual circumstances with an insurance specialist. The InsureandGo National Office phone number is 1300 552 701.

Helpful Tip

Once you have secured your insurance, be sure to print off all of the emergency contact information, policy certificate and your policy number. Carry it with you when you travel so that it is readily accessible should something go wrong (we certainly hope it doesn’t). This helps to reduce confusion when you’re in a foreign country and are needing assistance.

Happy travelling from the Transplant Australia team.
