Spotlight on Advocacy

By May 8, 2025No Comments

At Transplant Australia, advocacy is central to our mission. We proudly represent transplant recipients, living donors, donor families, and those waiting for a transplant. Our work reaches across State and Federal Governments, the Organ and Tissue Authority (OTA), and the broader healthcare system.

Supporting Systemic Change:

We have strong partnerships with key organisations. These include the Organ and Tissue Authority, the Transplantation Society of Australia and New Zealand, and the Transplant Nurses Association.

We were part of the advisory group that helped form the OTA and the DonateLife network. Since then, donation rates have doubled in the OTA’s first decade—a significant achievement for our community.

Giving a Voice to Our Community:

Over the years, we’ve taken part in more than a dozen government inquiries. In each one, we’ve represented the views of our community on organ and tissue donation.

We work with governments of all political backgrounds. Our goal is clear: to improve funding, access, and support for donation and transplantation services.

Sharing Patient Perspectives:

We regularly provide expert commentary to the media on transplant and donation issues. Just as important, we help bring the patient voice into research. This ensures that new developments truly meet the needs of transplant recipients and donors.

Advocacy That Happens Quietly—but Powerfully:

Many of our advocacy efforts happen behind the scenes. Much of this work is done with little or no funding. Still, we are committed to supporting the sector and shining a light on the people who save and improve lives every day.

We strongly believe in building trust in the transplant community and supporting the healthcare professionals who make a difference.

A Team That Works for You:

Our dedicated staff lead this important work. They are supported by our Board of Directors, who play a vital role in representing the interests of our members.

Together, we work to make sure your voice is heard—across Australia.
