Kidney Research Patient focus Group

By September 29, 2020No Comments

As you may be aware, clinical trials are part of scientific research and at the heart of all medical advances. Clinical trials look at new ways to prevent, detect, or treat disease. Treatments might be new drugs or new combinations of drugs, new surgical procedures or devices, or new ways to use existing treatments. The goal of clinical trials is to determine if a new test or treatment works and is safe.

Currently, a clinical trial is being planned in people at risk of, or having experienced, Antibody Mediated Rejection (AMR) after a kidney transplant.

The sponsor of this project (a pharmaceutical company) is looking to gather feedback on the goals and design of the clinical trial from patients who know what it’s like to live with a kidney transplant.

In order to qualify for this advisory panel, you must meet the following criteria:

Adult patients who have undergone kidney transplant, or are on active waiting list post failure of previous transplant  (preferably patients who had graft failure that may be attributed to Antibody Mediated Rejection (AMR), but not a mandatory requirement)

AND

Have received treatment to prevent AMR pre-/post-transplant (eg, desensitization with plasmapheresis/IVIg/rituximab), or treatment of AMR post-transplant

The study sponsor is looking for 6-10 patients to participate in a 90-120 minute web meeting to be scheduled for a weekday evening in early November 2020.  Participants must be willing to sign a confidential disclosure agreement and must have access to a telephone line and an internet connection. Should you choose to participate, any personal or health-related information you disclose will remain confidential. Your opinions and recommendations about the planned study will be shared with the researchers, but not your identity.  This is not a means to solicit your participation in a clinical trial.

If you are interested in participating in this patient advisory board, please contact myself a matty.hempstalk@transplant.org.au or 0404 177 748 by 17th October.  The first 10 people who meet the patient profile will be included to participate.  I will then contact you to explain compensation for your valuable participation and insights etc.

Thank you in advance for your willingness to provide your perspective on something that is affecting your life in a very significant and personal way.
