Women and girls whose lives have been saved through organ transplantation are to benefit from a major grant from the Australian Government to national charity Transplant Australia.

Transplant Australia has been selected to receive funding under the Australian Government’s $200 million Play Our Way Program, which is designed to remove barriers, address discrimination and promote equality for women and girls to participate in sport and physical activity.

Transplant Australia will use the three-year funding to implement a program to help women and girls with transplants ‘comeback’ into their first season in sport and life.

Transplant Australia is proud to be one of the 290 organisations around the nation selected to receive ‘Play Our Way’ funding for this special sport participation program. Many of the projects receiving funding target women and girls who face additional barriers to participation in sport and physical activity. This includes women and girls who have a Disability, live in regional or remote areas of Australia, are First Nations people or from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities.

Transplant Australia CEO Chris Thomas welcomed the grant as it emphasised Transplant Australia’s role in providing ongoing rehabilitation to recipients throughout their journey. Implementation of the program will be led by Transplant Australia’s Operations and Program Manager, Kate Clark with the support of the national office and an advisory panel.
