It is with great sadness that I can let all Transplant Australia members know that esteemed and much loved Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Transplant Physician, Josette Eris, has passed away.
TSANZ President Steve Chadban informed the transplant community today (May 4) that Josette passed away peacefully surrounded by her family after a short and sudden illness. Josette was a wonderful contributor to improvements in transplantation locally, nationally and internationally. In particular she was seen as a pioneer for women in transplantation. She will be very much missed by her patients, colleagues and physician trainees to whom she was like a ‘mother hen’. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Transplant Team, doctors and professionals at RPA during this difficult time. Also my thoughts and prayers go to Dr Eris’ family. Dr Eris was an amazing professional in her field of work and was truly passionate in what she did. She will be truly missed by all patients and staff at RPA.

What a terrible shock to my wife and I. As a transplant kidney recipient of 20 years, Josette was my specialist in the early days and my wife as part of the extended transplant team in regional NSW. Our deepest sympathies to her family and friends, rest in peace Josette, you will be sorely missed.
A wonderful woman lost far too soon. A firm yet kind hearted woman who cared about her patients and especially her family. RIP.
Dear Richard,
I’m so sad and so sorry
Our thoughts are with her family and the team during these difficult times.
She was an extraordinary woman, a generous woman who have devoted her life for the patients… one of the best transplant nephrologist I have ever met…
All of us in New Caledonia are at a loss for words.
We will miss her so much

Gutted by this terrible news. Josette and I went through Medicine at Sydney Uni together and were students at RPAH. She was superstar quality then and no surprise that she made such great contribution to our community. Condolences to all her family
RIP Dr Josette Eris. Such sad news. Our regular three monthly visits to see you at RPA will not be the same. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family and the RPA community.
A wonderful compassionate person, who always cared, Josette enabled our live donation and my husband has had over a decade of being able to enjoy our growing family with us Not only has a great doctor been lost but a truly beautiful lady RIP
As a recent Transplant patient at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital 20/7/2011.
I was deeply sadden to hear the recent passing of lovely, caring and very talented beautiful lady. As an outpatient during my recovery at RPAH I had the pleasure to have a number of early morning meetings with Dr Josette Eris, along with Dr Steve Chadban following my transplant, If it wasn’t for Dr Eris and the care that she had provided for myself and other kidney transplant patients I do not know were I would be almost five years later after my operation.
It was a great pleasure to be a patient of such a lovely caring lady. Definitely will be missed.
THANK YOU and Rest In Peace Dr Josette Eris.
I was shocked and saddened when I was told today that Dr Eris had passed away. She was an amazing doctor and always friendly and caring with her patients. I still can’t believe it. I will remember her with great fondness.
What a shock! Gone too soon…. My family was blessed to have Professor Eris as my mother’s physician from 1998 till she passed in 2015. Dr Eris came close to almost an angel to us as she persevered to ensure that my mother had the best care … We will always be indebted to you Dr Eris… the medical profession at large, and the Renal unit of RPAH in particular has lost one of its most distinguished and most humane servants… Vale Dr Eris…..

Very shocked and extremely sad to hear of Dr Eris’ passing today. She was more than a doctor to me but a guardian angel. She had such warmth, compassion and always happy to see her patients. A very amazing lady who I had the pleasure of knowing during my regular visits to see her. My love and thoughts to your family. You will be greatly missed. Definitely one of God’s Angels!
So sad to learn of Josette’s passing. I found her to be a caring, compassionate person during my wife’s battle with cancer back in 2006-2007.
I never met Dr Eris, but she sounds like she was well intentioned and hard working.
A blessing!
Imagine how fortunate the recipients of her organs must feel, imagine how difficult the conversation about organ donation must have been for Dr Eris” family
Rest in Peace
