2021 Australian Donation and Transplantation Activity Report

By February 17, 2022No Comments
Today our Minister Dr David Gillespie MP, released the 2021 Australian Donation and Transplantation Activity report which provides the full picture of Australia’s organ and tissue donation and transplantation outcomes for the year.
The Australian Organ and Tissue Authority use the data to inform ongoing improvements to donation and transplantation programs and we share the report publicly to be transparent about the challenges and opportunities facing the sector, and to encourage people to register and talk to their family about donation.
Despite the strains that COVID-19 has put on the Australian health care system, there were 1,174 Australians who received an organ transplant, due to the generosity of 421 deceased organ donors and their families in 2021.
Thank you to all the generous donors and their families for saying “yes” to organ and tissue donation and giving the gift of life and sight to other Australians.
We are also incredibly proud of donation and transplant doctors and nurses, as well as our DonateLife teams, for going above and beyond to make sure patients received the best possible care.
