By October 2, 2015No Comments

This year, we’re pleased to announce that the Mark Cocks Scholarship has been awarded to Dr Robert Carroll and will enable research into minimising the effects of immunosuppressants. He also intends to lead randomised controlled trials of dose reduction for secondary prevention of skin cancer in kidney transplant recipients.

Dr Carroll is well recognised internationally for his work on immune studies. He is currently a Transplant Nephrologist at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and Senior Lecturer with the University of Adelaide. His clinical interests lie in the transition of young adults with renal problems and he has established the Young Adult Renal Clinic; the first and only one in Australia.

The Mark Cocks scholarship is a prestigious award that recognises the life of Mark Cocks and his contribution to Transplant Australia and the wider transplant community. The scholarship is offered by Transplant Australia and is awarded to encourage members of the transplant community to study or enhance their transplantation techniques and procedures, or to develop innovations that will improve survival rates and the quality of life of patients. The award is presented by the Transplant Society of Australia and New Zealand each year.

Congratulations Dr Carroll, we wish you every success with your research projects and thank you for your dedication and commitment in trying to improve the quality of life for transplant recipients.
