Kidney Transplant Programs Suspended

By March 26, 2020No Comments

Difficult news from the TSANZ with confirmation that Australia’s kidney transplant programs are being suspended due to the Coronavirus. Transplant Australia agrees that the risks are just too great for people on dialysis to undergo a transplant at this point in time. If they were to contract Coronavirus immediately after the transplant there could be serious implications. But we need to spare a thought for all those waiting and hope the programs can be recommenced as soon as possible.

Urgent liver, lung, heart and multi-organ transplants and paediatric transplants are continuing. These are unprecedented times.

Please, whether you are waiting or have received a transplant, be safe, observe government protocols regarding social distancing, exercise and remain positive that this crisis will end.

Our media release in relation to the kidney transplant programs is here:

Transplant Australia Release on Donation and Transplantation and Coronavirus March 2020.

Thinking of everyone at this time.
