On Sunday 28 July, the Transplant Australia Football Club took on Belrose Terrey Hills (BTH) as they played for the Doujon Zammit Shield. The match was organised to give the Transplant Australia National Team a good workout on home soil before heading to the Transplant Football World Cup in Italy this September.
It was a great opportunity for both teams to get some match practice. In perfect conditions, Terry Hills came out strong in the first half with a long-range goal by Jamie Craig.
With committee member Matt Zoppos in charge as coach some changes in the second half led to more attacking style of play and resulted in 5-1 score line at full time if favour of TAFC.
Following the end of the game, the Matty Hempstalk player of the match medal was awarded to a goal scorer Jamie Craig from Belrose Terrey Hills and a new addition to TAFC making his debut, bone marrow recipient Petar Bazardic.
The spirit and camaraderie was excellent and it was a wonderful way to kick off DonateLife Week. It was also a good opportunity to recognise two of TAFC’s sponsors, The Football Players Association and Weet-Bix. Liam Woods was also announced as Captain of the Transplant Australia National Team.
Big thanks to BTH for its support of TAFC over many years.
