Update on World Transplant Games

By April 8, 2022No Comments

We have some good news about the World Transplant Games to be staged in Perth in April next year.

Registration for Games opens this week and we continue to receive great support from the Federal and State Government to enable Transplant Australia to host this inspirational event.

Now we just need you to get the dates in your diary and start planning your trip to Perth as part of Team Australia.

In the Federal Budget released last month the Minister for Sport, Senator The Hon Richard Colbeck, allocated an additional $400,000 to enable Transplant Australia to promote organ and tissue donation through the Games. This was in additional to the $600,000 we received in last year’s budget to actually stage the event.

Minister Colbeck and the Federal Government are committed to building a calendar of world-class sporting events in the lead up to the Brisbane Summer Olympics in 2032. And we are privileged to be included in this calendar.

This shows that Australia is opening up post the pandemic with four world events to be held around Australia towards the end of this year. These include the UCI Road World Cycling Championships to be held in Wollongong in September, the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Sydney in October, the ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup across Australia in November and the VIRTUS Oceania Asia Games (for athletes with a disability) in Brisbane in November.

We are confident that in 12 months time our World Transplant Games will be able to take place as scheduled. Of course we are still managing all aspects of the pandemic. Last week I met with the key members of the medical team to start planning our management of everyone’s health at the games.

It was a great opportunity to visit Perth and also meet with key sponsors, review some of the facilities and sit down with some of the sport providers.

This Wednesday (April 13 at 7.30pm Australian Eastern Standard Time) we are holding an introduction Zoom meeting for anyone wishing to join Team Australia at the World Transplant Games. To register click Here

If you are unable to attend it will be recorded and we can send you the link afterwards.

The webinar will cover how to get involved in the games, will hear from some athletes who have been to previous games and outline the training opportunities leading up to the games. Plus you will meet the management team for Team Australia.

Hope you can make it.
