From Richard & Anne Hayes
Transplant Australia QLD Committee
Gerry has been a most valued member and friend of the Queensland branch of Transplant Australia. His presence at our events will be greatly missed.
We met Gerry at the Transplant Games. He would participate in as many events as he could at the Australian Games to support Queensland’s attempts to win the overall trophy. He supported Richard, our chairperson, at a competitive level, competing in the same age group, threatening him that “One day! One day!” he would beat him in the 100m.
In the World Games, his approach was humble and always positive, aiming to do his best. He was to be admired for his determination to complete the 5k walk and for the support he gave to others in their events! Our members/athletes who got to know Gerry would only ever have kind words and would always ask how he was.
Gerry supported Transplant Australia QLD by traveling to Brisbane to participate in our monthly activities. His gentle, quiet, and respectful manner when interacting with others was always valued. Gerry would constantly be aware of others and be ready to support them, whether encouraging or just showing care and concern. It was always something to look forward to, seeing his smiling face and having a chat with him. He willingly shared his sense of humour and friendship.
It really goes without saying, Gerry will be sadly missed by us all.
