It is with much sadness, that I advise of Graham Lentell’s passing on 3rd July, after a long battle with cancer.
As you are no doubt aware, Graham was a transplant recipient and member of the Australian Transplant CC team that toured England in 2006. He played in every match of that tour, opening the batting with then Captain, Nick Harris. Subsequently, Graham became the second person to Captain the Australian Transplant CC. His calm demeanour being perfect for dealing with the demands inherent in being Captain.
Graham was a wonderful colleague to have on tour. Outwardly, quiet but with a dry and quick-witted sense of humour. He also was a very caring man and always put the interests of others before his own.
Above all that, was Graham’s role as a loving husband to Sandi and father to their children. He also was a wonderful servant for his local community. For example, whilst living inRockhampton, Graham’s efforts resulted in a grant being awarded for local “grass roots” cricket.
I am in awe of Graham’s compassion, demeanour and inner strength. A man of great integrity and kindness, Graham had a positive impact on all those fortunate enough to know him.
My deepest sympathy to Graham’s family and particularly, his soul-mate and loving wife, Sandi, and their children and the extended family. I also convey my condolences to Graham’s younger and “little brother”, Damien, who accompanied Graham on the 2006 Tour of England. To all of you, may your many fond memories of Graham comfort you at this sad time.
Graham has left us all too soon. He was a real gentleman and although we grieve his passing, our lives are so much the richer for having known him.
We are all so fortunate to have known such a remarkable man.
In sympathy,
Jeffery Sewell
